Toys are for dogs, too
Dogs need toys, just like any other kid who longs to have something to cuddle or play with. Like humans in their early years, dogs are playful. You can notice it as they run around you and sniff or even lick your legs. Dogs are social animals and just like ordinary people they need some form of entertainment, an avenue for them to express their playfulness and release their energy. There are several types of toys which can be given to a dog. Each type has its own purpose which benefits not only the dog, but also its master.

Chewable Toys
Dogs also need the same oral gratification man needs. This is one purpose of the chew-type toys which a dog should have at its disposal during its early years and also as they grow old.
Puppies need chewable toys for several reasons. One is to keep their gums healthy. Second is that by chewing, their "milk" teeth becomes loose and extracted naturally which will then give way for permanent teeth to grow in their place. Adult dogs need to chew, as well. They need it to ease boredom and keep their jaw muscles healthy and well-toned. This is a form of gum exercise which keeps their "biting" force stronger. Chewing also helps them keep their oral cavity healthier by preventing dental problems from happening.
Apart from these reasons, giving your dog something to chew on is better than giving it the freedom to choose amongst your costly Havaianas or Crocs.
Activity Toys
Adult dogs, in the course of a day, have a lot of energy to expend. One good way of releasing this energy is through activities which will also enhance the masters bonding with the dog, and at the same time, keeping the dog healthy and fit.
These toys may range from simple balls to Frisbees which are thrown by the master and retrieved by the dog. These activities are very beneficial because they keep the structure of the dog healthy, including their muscles, bones and organs. Complimented with a good, healthy and balanced diet, the dog is will stay healthy longer.
Doing this regularly, but in a careful and cautious manner is very important in keeping all aspects of your dogs life as healthy as possible.
Other Types of Toys
Other categories of dog toys are reward toys and comfort toys. Reward toys work in such as way that the dog get some incentives, usually in the form of food, when playing with the toy or following their masters commands. Comfort toys work in times when the dog is brought during travels, trips or other situations in which the dog may experience boredom.
