One great way to get your children excited about keeping their room clean is to let them help in designing their own room by allowing them to choose their own kids room furniture. Most children really love to do this, and with a few guidelines and pointers from Mom and Dad they can be very creative. There are some basic pieces of furniture that can be included in your child's room, but this will vary slightly depending on their age. One option for your child's room is to develop a theme, and then determine what furniture can be used to carry out the theme throughout the room.
Bed
Toy Boxes Furniture
The bed will most likely be one of the more expensive pieces of furniture in the room, so it is important to pick one that will last for some time. There are some terrific theme type beds to really add to a room. There are theme beds that are cars, planes, ships, castles, and under the sea motifs. In addition there is also matching bedding that really completes the effect.
Bookcase
No matter what age your child may be it is great to have a bookcase as part of the furniture in your child's room. A good, sturdy bookcase can be used to keep favorite books as well as display treasured items. If you are completing a theme room, try finding a bookcase that goes along with the idea. If you can't locate a bookcase that matches the theme, try adding transfers or stencil theme type patterns on the bookcase. There are also round bookcases that are terrific for storing books in small spaces or for placing in a corner area.
Dresser
Having a solidly made dresser that can hold up to having drawers opened and closed is a must. It is important that the drawers be constructed with stoppers to prevent the child from accidentally pulling the drawer all the way out. If you don't want the dresser to be part of the theme, you can always stick to a neutral or basic color such as white, cream or a solid color. Since a dresser is usually one of the more used pieces of furniture in the room it is important to make sure that it is a good quality piece. In addition the dresser is likely to be one of the staples of the furniture in the child's room for many years, so buying quality will pay off.
Chairs
A list of kid's room furniture wouldn't be complete without a few chairs. Chairs can be used around a small table for a play and art center, or can also be used to make a comfortable reading area in the room. The chairs can be traditional, or more comfortable and kid friendly like beanbag chairs. The type of chairs you and your child choose will have a lot to do with the age and personal preference of the child.
Toy Box
What child's room would be complete without a toy box? There are many different styles of toy boxes on the market, not just the traditional rectangular shape. Consider the room, the theme, and the toys that your child has before picking a toy box for the room. Like the dresser, this can be part of the theme or can be a neutral or solid color.
As your child grows you will find that more furniture may be needed, computer desks, armchairs, additional storage units or other items. By either keeping to a theme or color scheme, you can easily incorporate necessary furniture in to your kids' rooms.
